Parade Information and Rules

Unity in the Community is excited to announce that it is expanding the Disability Parade from  previous years.  This is the first year where the parade will travel through downtown Spokane to demonstrate the Spokane region’s respect, support, and honoring of our diverse communities.

PURPOSE

Unity in the Community is sponsoring the Unity Parade to represent Spokane’s diverse cultures, communities, and people.  The parade is designed to be a time of celebration and joy for how our similarities and differences make us a stronger and better community.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

We expect all groups participating in the parade to agree to the following guidelines:

  • Parade participants shall focus their messages on the parade theme and the joy of celebrating and sharing their culture, identity, or community.
  • All people and groups are honored for their contribution to the Spokane region.
  • No images or messages that promote or condone hate, violence, degradation, negative stereotypes, or disrespect of any person(s) or groups are permitted.
  • The parade is non-partisan and all people are welcome to participate.

 DAY OF PARADE

START TIME – Parade begins promptly at 9:00 am

PARADE LINE-UP – All entrants must arrive by 8:00 am to check-in and receive assigned numbers for parade location.  Lineup positions are assigned at the discretion of the Parade Committee.  Lineup location will be sent to participants closer to the event date.

ABSOLUTELY NO THROWING OF ANY ITEMs

You may NOT throw candy, buttons, literature etc… of any kind. If you would like to pass out items you MUST have walkers pass them out.

COMPLETE PARADE ROUTE

All units are required to complete the entire parade route

Vehicle Participation

The vehicle driver must present a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance at parade check-in if asked. Any vehicle without this proof will be denied entry into the parade.  Any person operating a vehicle in the Parade; whether powered, self powered, or non-powered does so at his or her own risk, bearing all liability for any and all damages or loss of personal property and/or any personal injuries sustained to themselves or other person(s).

 SIRENS, HORNS & LOUD NOISES

Please be conservative when sounding sirens, horns and load noises. Be aware of volume and the duration of the noise on the parade route to minimize noise discomfort for sensitive ears. Do not allow your volume to interfere with the other performances, or to startle animals or participants.

NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR DRUG USE PERMITTED

Consumption of alcoholic beverages or illicit illegal drugs during lineup or the actual parade is grounds for immediate expulsion from the event.

PARADE ENTRY

Make sure to include a script for the Parade announcer for your entry.

Once registration is completed on line the Parade Committee will review it for approval.  Once approved a confirmation email, Parade Pass, and Festival map will be mailed to you.

 PARADE LIMITATIONS

Unity in the Community has the right to bar and/or remove from parade those that are not conforming to the rules or violate the spirit of the parade.  The Parade Committee will NOT accept, allow, or permit into the parade or related activities any group or organization that violate the Parade Principles.
